Steve Freese, age 66, died November 12, 2014 of lung cancer. His wife, Laura and daughters, Corine, Shauna and Alexa were by his side along with other friends and
relatives.
Steve attended UC Berkeley and UCSB but lived 24 years in his favorite city, San Juan Capistrano. Steve's greatest quality was how he embraced life.
Steve found joy in small things: the flag waving on the ridge-top or laughing at himself. He was spiritual and saw the beauty in everyone he encountered. He had an old fashioned sense of ethics, chivalry and fairness. He had a huge number of friends because he made new friends everywhere and never lost a single one. His
joyfulness lit up any room he was in,
He wanted to be a part of everything. Even at the end of his life he whispered that he had a "fear of missing out"
when the morphine tempted him to sleep.
Though humble, he laughingly wrote a song about himself called "Steve Freese, what a handsome guy." It was sung at his bedside as he took his last breaths. His
last wish was to go out laughing and he did.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Lungevity.org for
lung cancer research.
